current progress as of 10-27-2023
so far I have a strong working foundation. the battle system is kind of action kind of jrpg style. its all based around these timers. when the timer hits 0 you have the option to attack like any other jrpg ya know basic attacks, special moves or items. you choose when you want to switch to this mode though. during a battle you can swap between defense and battle mode on the fly.
let me explain the battle system
in attack mode - you can use your rpg menu as I'm sure your used to but it might be a better option to wait because if you attack at the wrong moment you might miss or get hurt by a counter.
in defense mode - you have the option to run around in the area around your character to dodge enemy attacks or charge up your counter attack. be carful with the timing while countering you'll be stunned if your too late on the release or too early. while in this mode if your timer is still counting down these little balls will appear randomly in your area. collect them to decrease the bar faster. once the bar hits zero you can go to attack mode and use your options.
Jeff and Cambel have dedicated buttons respectfully.
Xbox controller support
for Jeff - "x" is defense mode hold to charge counter attack and y swaps back to action mode also used to select the option you want in the menu.
for Cambel - "a" is defense mode hold to charge counter attack and "b" swaps back to action mode also used to select the option you want in the menu.
keyboard controls are arrow keys to move a,s,z,x for action buttons and enter for pause menu
in the overworld
got a nice looking dialog system going with some of the beginning conversations implemented, some top down platforming and exploring to do. inventory system and item shops have been finished. game is playable up to the first town once i get that where i like it and ive polished up the rest of the game a little more ill upload the demo.
the world will open up more after you reunite with Cambel and leave the first town.
now the idea of the world is that it wont make sense its a second world made by a force that I cant spoil just yet lol when its finished hoping the twist will blow minds. so you could be in a cold mountain covered in ice cream one minuet then immediately to a volcanic hell filled with odd hot and steamy characters wink wink lol.
to do list till demo release
finish village npcs- dialog to add a bit of lore -- almost done
add save function
puzzle to solve in town to wake up Cambel "dude sleeps like a rock"
need a few more sound effects for the monsters
that's about it. as game development goes may discover other things along the way but it all seems to be going smoothly at least for now.
